Yep, there are still many more of these – and each and every one deserves an individual thanks!
This one goes to New Balance. Yes, the multi-national sporting brand which sponsors athletes ranging from Cumbria’s Ben Stokes to providing the strip for Liverpoool FC.
The company has a factory in Flimby, in west Cumbria, and is brilliant at supporting the local economy. I sent an email tentatively to a contact asking if there was any support that could be offered. They passed it to someone else, who passed it to a third person…. and suddenly I received an email offering me a pair of trainers!
I was flabbergasted – and overjoyed. Following further communication, we agreed I would pop along to the factory outlet shop – adjacent to the factory – and try on shoes.
(New Balance also has shops in Keswick and Shap, you can find out more here.)
Unfortunately they had to be ordered in, but Debbie and Melanie could not have been more helpful. Further email discussions even saw them offering me running items, resulting in a gorgeous new pair of running capris, a breathable running t-shirt, and a lovely warm branded hoody for pre and post run.
As if that wasn’t enough, when I was struggling to get out to pick it up from the shop, they posted it out to me!
Companies like New Balance don’t need the publicity, and yet they still went out of their way to help and support me.
It is again thanks to organisations like them, that I am able to financially afford this challenge – and hopefully raise thousands of pounds for The Brain Tumour Charity.
